If swap is on a logical volume (LVM) you must run:
 mkswap /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01
before
 swapon /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01

if swapon fail by message:
swapon: /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01: Invalid argument

You forgot to add mkswap in the LVM directions as well. I didn't even glance at your conventional directions until after I had discovered that I needed to run mkswap on another site. Very good writeup otherwise. Thanks.
